STORYLINE:
A heartbroken filmmaker pulls back the curtain on reproductive injustice in post-Roe America by exploring the world’s most common pregnancy complication: miscarriage. Calling on the powers of dark comedy, absurdist performance, intimate interviews, and queer camp, director Cheryl Furjanic realizes she’s on an adventure she didn’t anticipate. Unfolding in real-time, the making of ADVENTURES IN MISCARRIAGE begins to unlock the filmmaker’s trauma and healing from her own pregnancy loss.

SEEKING:
[BIPOC PERFORMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED PREGNANCY LOSS]
25-60, BIPOC, specifically Southeast Asian women. Seeking performers to appear on camera as themselves, who are comfortable speaking about their personal connection to pregnancy loss. We are also casting for short scripted scenes. ADVENTURES IN MISCARRIAGE appeals to anyone interested in urgent conversations around reproductive rights, who grapple with many kinds of grief while navigating the landscapes of their own losses. This film uses humor and absurdity, combining costumes, props and performance through documentary to shine a light on a serious but underexplored topic. Singing and dancing experience a huge plus.
SELF-TAPE DEADLINE- 3PM EST, FRIDAY 3/6/26 (soonest is best)
I’m collecting stories about WHERE you miscarried and/or WHAT YOU WERE DOING when you miscarried. We carry our pregnancy loss trauma in our bodies, but I’m always struck by the locations we associate with our miscarriages. Here’s mine:
“I had a miscarriage in a hotel bathroom 3000 miles from home, on the day of my friend’s wedding. The wedding favor was a souvenir mug. Now my partner and I have mugs with the date of our miscarriage on them.”
If you have a miscarriage story, I’m sorry for your loss. And I would be very grateful to hear your “where and when” story.
- slate (name, agency, height, current location and location base)
- where did you miscarry?
- what were you doing when you miscarried?
- include headshot, resume and acting reels/clips (including vocal and dance reels/clips a huge plus)
